Privacy & Cookies

How BetStory UK collects, uses and looks after your information — written in plain English, in line with UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018).

Last updated: June 2026 · An independent UK editorial site — not a gambling operator

This policy explains what personal information we collect when you visit BetStory UK, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. We have tried to keep the legal jargon to a minimum. If anything is unclear, please get in touch and we will be glad to help.

📄 Template notice

This document is a working template for the BetStory UK website. Items shown in [square brackets] are placeholders that must be completed with real legal and company details before this policy is published or relied upon.

Who we are

BetStory UK is an independent editorial website that publishes stories, guides and safer-play information about gambling. We are not a gambling operator: we do not take bets, hold customer accounts, process payments or offer any gambling product. We simply publish content for an adult UK audience.

For the purposes of UK data protection law, the "data controller" responsible for your information is the company that operates this website. You can reach our privacy contact by email at privacy@ukbetstory.com.

[Insert the operating company's full legal name, registered company number, and registered office address here before going live. If the business is required to register with the Information Commissioner's Office, add the ICO registration number as well.]

The information we collect

We deliberately keep data collection to a minimum. Depending on how you use the site, we may collect:

🔞 We do not knowingly collect data from under-18s

BetStory UK is intended only for adults aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it.

How and why we use it (lawful bases)

We only use your information for clear, limited purposes, and we always rely on a lawful basis under the UK GDPR when we do so:

We do not use your data for automated decision-making or profiling that produces legal or similarly significant effects.

Cookies & local storage

Cookies and similar technologies (such as your browser's local storage) are small pieces of data saved on your device. We use them sparingly, and we split them into two groups:

When you first visit, a cookie banner asks whether you would like to accept all or reject optional cookies. Your choice — together with your age confirmation — is saved in your browser's local storage on your own device, not on our servers:

Name / Type Purpose Category Duration
bs_age_ok
(local storage)
Remembers that you have confirmed you are 18 or over, so the age check is not shown again. Essential Persistent (stored locally until you clear site data)
bs_cookie
(local storage)
Remembers your cookie choice (accepted / rejected) so the consent banner is not shown again. Essential Persistent (stored locally until you clear site data)
Analytics cookie
[e.g. _ga / provider ID]
Helps us measure visits and understand how the site is used, in aggregate. Set only if you accept optional cookies. Optional [Insert provider's stated duration, e.g. up to 13 months]

⚙️ How to withdraw consent or reset your choices

You can change your mind at any time. To reset the cookie banner and your age confirmation, clear this site's data through your browser settings (this removes the bs_cookie and bs_age_ok values), and the banner will appear again on your next visit. You can also block or delete cookies entirely using your browser's privacy controls — though some essential features may then ask you to confirm your choices again.

Third-party services

To run the site we rely on a small number of third-party services, and some content links out to external organisations. These third parties handle data under their own privacy policies:

Sharing your information

We do not sell your personal data, and we never trade it for marketing purposes. We only share information where it is genuinely necessary:

Any provider we use is required to keep your data secure and to use it only on our instructions. [Confirm whether any provider transfers data outside the UK; if so, add the safeguards relied upon, such as the UK International Data Transfer Agreement or adequacy regulations.]

Data retention

We keep personal information only for as long as we genuinely need it. Enquiry emails are kept long enough to deal with your message and any follow-up, then deleted. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe. Anonymous or aggregated analytics may be retained longer because they no longer identify you. [Insert specific retention periods once finalised.]

Your rights under UK GDPR

Under UK data protection law you have a number of rights over your personal information. You can ask us to act on any of the following:

To exercise any of these rights, email privacy@ukbetstory.com. We will respond within the timeframes required by law. You also have the right to complain to the UK's data protection regulator, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), at ico.org.uk — though we would always appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Keeping data secure

We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse and unauthorised access. While no website can promise perfect security, we limit the data we collect, restrict who can access it, and work only with providers who maintain appropriate safeguards.

Children & age restriction

BetStory UK is strictly for adults. Both this website and gambling itself are intended only for people aged 18 and over in the United Kingdom.

🔞 Strictly 18+

This site is not intended for anyone under the age of 18, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from under-18s. If you are not yet 18, please leave this site. If you believe a minor has shared data with us, contact privacy@ukbetstory.com and we will delete it promptly.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time — for example, if we change the tools we use or if the law changes. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date shown at the top of this page. We encourage you to check back occasionally so you always know how your information is handled.

Contact us

If you have any questions about this policy, or you would like to exercise your data rights, please contact us:

✅ In short

We collect very little, we never sell your data, optional cookies are set only with your consent, and your age and cookie choices stay in your own browser. You are always in control — and you can contact us at privacy@ukbetstory.com at any time.

Thank you for reading. BetStory UK is here to help people enjoy gambling content responsibly — and that includes treating your privacy with the same care. 18+ only; when the fun stops, stop.
